4 Questions with Jennie Lee Riddle (@jennieleeriddle)

By Admin on June 10, 2012

This is the first of our new series of posts called “4 Questions”. It’s a quick 4 question interview with the artists that are on the All About Worship Collective 3 – a free compilation of corporate worship song.

AAW: Tell us the story behind the song - "Can't Get Enough Of You".

Jennie: "Can't Get Enough Of You" is a song that originated in the heart of my co-writer, Sarah Reeves. We had scheduled a time to write, and she came with this completed lovely chorus and melody for the verses. Both the song and Sarah had such a sweet anointing. This song was an easy song to write and it flowed quite naturally out of both of us.

For me personally, I'm always aware of the process that our hearts take in worship. When our hearts begin to soften as the Holy Spirit moves on us, and a desire for God awakens in us, oftentimes, along with that, comes an awareness of our uncleanness. I always want to go back a few steps and give opportunity to come under the stream of forgiveness and provide opportunity to get scrubbed clean and refreshed.

In this case the second verse is that opportunity. "You made a way for me by Your blood, flowing like a fountain, washing me clean..." It's always so precious to me that God's discipline, counsel, and correction feel so loving, secure, refreshing, and good. "I can't get enough of You, Jesus, I can't get enough of You, Lord, I can't get enough of You, Savior.... I am so in love, I am so in love, all I really want is to love You more...." This becomes true in our hearts as we draw near to God and encounter His grace and mercy. "Where Your Spirit is, there is fullness... where Your Spirit is, mercy reigns... Where Your Spirit is, goodness rises like the dawn, we are home..." Amen.

My daughter, Emily sang the lead vocal on this recording, and Sarah and I sang the backing vocals. It was such a privilege to share this song with such gracious daughters of the Kingdom. We pray that this song opens up your heart to receive God's love for you, and also that it would free your heart to lavish Him with all that is in you as you bask in His goodness.

AAW: What is your favorite instrument and why?

Jennie: I love the banjo. It just makes me happy and it always has. I also love pipe organ, oboe, cello, and bagpipes (sorry, I couldn't choose!)

AAW: What is your favorite scripture related to worship?

Jennie: Hebrews 4:14-16 "Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

AAW: If you could say one thing to every worship leader in the world before they get up to lead worship this weekend, what would it be?

Jennie: IT'S ALL ABOUT HER! I know... it seems contradictory when we have had it hammered into our head that "it's all about Him" ...and it is. But every time I look towards the Lord, He fills my eyes with what has captivated His heart, and that is His Bride. HE is ALL ABOUT HER.

He is yearning for the day His Father says, "She's ready, Son. Now is the time!" Our Jesus is looking so forward to those trumpets and shouts, although I doubt He will even hear them. He will be racing in God like speed in the direction of His Beloved to whisk Her off to the wedding that time has looked forward to since it was first wound up and began to count down. We are standing before HIS BRIDE.

She is not ours. She is not a gig. She is royalty and betrothed to the King of Glory. We are on assignment to help prepare Her for life with Him as His helpmeet. We are to train Her towards Her job description, which is most easily seen in Proverbs 31. If we are doing our jobs well, we are quickly working ourselves out of them and equipping Her to take Her rightful place in this earth. This is how we serve the King best. So, how does this reality change the way we choose songs?
