Hillsong Live - Glorious Ruins [Review]

Hillsong Live - Glorious Ruins [Review]

By Julie Terwilliger on July 02, 2013

Hillsong LIVE has recorded their 22nd live album in London and Sydney. This album is brimming with anthems, 2 of which are already pre-released and being sung in churches across the world. Press play and you’ll hear a rhythmic synthesized intro that ramps into the first song “Always Will”, featuring singalongability (yes I just made that word up) upbeat without being too fast, and a good 'transitional' praise song.

“You Never Fail” is a soothing balm to the spirit in both truth and melody...

There's no one like our God, There's nothing that can stand against You, There's no stronghold You can't break, No life that You can't save, Our God You never fail”.

A sweet hymn, “You Crown The Year”, is pulled from Psalm 65:11 and led by female vocals.  This song sounds so familiar that you almost feel like you’ve heard it before.

A great ending to the album are the fabulous bonus tracks. “Lift You Higher” is filled with fun, techno pop sounds, and is definitely top 40 radio worthy. “Only You” has a fresh male vocal lead with a pleasantly vulnerable vibrato singing out, "Only You can save us Jesus, Only You can hear us Jesus, Only You can fix this Jesus". The bonus tracks also include a 30 minute message from Hillsong senior pastor Brian Houston.

As worship leaders we always look for music that is easy to pick up. Our congregations want to know the lyrics and sing along as soon as possible. I find this album has simplistic beauty and is easy to learn even as you listen for the first time. Each song is simply and humbly written with a heart for God and God alone.
