Interview with Tim Hageland
I recently had a chance to visit with Tim Hageland about his new album. Enjoy!
Wisdom: When and how did you start leading worship and writing songs?
Tim: I’ve been apart of a worship team since I was 5 or 6 years old then I started leading worship around the age of 10 and started writing songs around the age of 16.
Wisdom: Who are some of your musical influences?
Tim: Darlene Zschech, Hillsong Live, Jacque DeShetler, Israel & New Breed, Christy Nockels…. too many to list haha. But Darlene Zschech has been a huge inspiration most definitely!
Wisdom: You have a new EP out, Who You Are, Pt. 1. Who all were involved with the project and what was the process like?
Tim: So I had been writing songs with several co-writers and thought I had some pretty good songs to lie down and record. So I searched out a producer from a friend and it just went from there. I was commuting back and forth from Illinois to Nashville, TN to record this EP. I met several talented musicians and singers that my producer brought in and a couple friends of my own. Seth Jones was my producer for Part 1. We had bgv’s and quest vocals such as Jacque DeShetler (worship leader for Joyce Meyer Ministries), Brady Toops, Jennifer Balser (sang in Dustin Smith’s You Are the Fire project). Those are a few to list. Musicians such as Jacob Schrodt (previously touring drummer for CCM artist Chris August) and Chris LaCorte (guitarist for country artist Dustin Lynch). I was blessed to have these guys involved and now how have a friendship with most all of them. That’s what I’ve loved about the recording process is the relationships built.
Wisdom: What do you hope the listener takes away from the record?
Tim: The songs are centered on Who Our God Is! I want those who listen to this project to know who their Creator, Abba Father and true best friend is. For others to know what He has done for them and has promised to do. To know that He loves us with an everlasting love and that He simply IS!
Wisdom: Which song on the record has gotten the most response from listeners?
Tim: "Only One" and "To God Be the Fame".
Wisdom: You're a very young worship leader and songwriter. What would you say to young people that are reading this who want to lead worship or write songs, but feel that they are too young?
Tim: Leading worship is a huge calling not to be taken lightly. So many worship leaders get caught up in the danger zone of simply doing karaoke. You have to be sure that if you want to lead worship it’s because that desire was placed inside your spirit from God and that you don’t just want to be seen on a stage in the limelight. The only person thrown out of heaven was a worship leader, as Ron Kenoly once said. What a provoking thought. As worship leaders we are to take people on a journey to the throne room, to declare warfare, and lift the name of Jesus high because in the end it’s all about Jesus! If you have the gift and the heart for worship I encourage you to go for it, study it, and ask for guidance from the Holy Spirit. You are never too young or too old for the call of God to be at work in your life. Start today!
Wisdom: What can folks expect from you in the next 12 months or so?
Tim: Hopefully God will be expanding my territory as I lead worship and write more songs for the church. I want to be used for His glory and used as a mouthpiece to teach the heart of worship.
