Kill Plan B
Having a contingency plan to get out of the shopping mall during peak holiday season is a clever idea, but when it comes to following God’s instruction and call for your life, the best thing to do is kill Plan B.
Sure, having contingency plans in place feels much safer. It gives you the feeling that you’ve got things under control, if something goes askew.
When we completely trust God with His plan and call for our lives (Plan A) – through obedience and faith – we can begin to witness His miracles unfold in many ways. And they are always much greater than anything we could ever dream or put into action with our own Plan B.
In 1 Kings 19:19-21, Elisha was working with the 12th pair of oxen in the field. When the prophet Elijah threw his coat on him, an act to appoint Elisha as his successor, Elisha was quick to kill Plan B.
"And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him." 1 Kings 19:21 (ESV)
There really was no turning back to his old day job once the oxen and his plowing tools were burned. Plan B had been removed. It was now all or nothing.
His obedience to wholeheartedly follow and trust in God’s plan for His life resulted in many amazing miracles as a prophet of the Lord.
There’s an amazing plan designed by God specifically for your life too, and He is completely trustworthy and capable of managing that plan to the finest of details.
We can all be assured that His Plan A needs no contingencies.
