Meredith Andrews, Worth It All - Review & Giveaway

By Barry Westman on January 21, 2013

It’s been almost three years since Meredith Andrews' last album, so the much-anticipated release of her latest project, Worth It All, will be welcomed by her many fans, and this high quality new collection of songs is sure to propel her even further into the spotlight as one of the preeminent female lead worshippers today.

Two-time Dove award-winning artist Meredith Andrews is a worship leader with Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago, and this marks her third studio album release, this being the debut release from newly created label, Word Worship.  She is no stranger to worship leaders and congregations with earlier songs such as “You’re Not Alone”, “How Great Is The Love” and most recently with her single “Not For A Moment (After All)” which also appears on this album.

Worth It All has just the right mix of songs that would be perfect to use on a Sunday morning with your congregation, and songs that are more personal, reflective and truly heart-felt.  “Not For A Moment (After All)”, which Meredith wrote with husband Jacob Sooter and Mia Fieldes, has already become a widely-used anthem of hope in churches across the country, reaffirming the truth found in Romans 8:35 that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ.  This song, along with the opening track “Open Up the Heavens”, also appeared on another amazing album titled Live Worship from Vertical Church, featuring Meredith and the team from Harvest Bible Chapel. “Open Up the Heavens” is a perfect service-opener, and this version adds a choir and has a more syncopated feel.

“Strong God” and “Your Kingdom Reigns” are two other songs that will fit perfectly into Sunday morning playlists. “Strong God”, written with Jon Egan (Desperation Band) and Jason Ingram originally appeared on Desperation Band’s Center Of It All album, however this version may be better suited for congregational use, and is an excellent arrangement that builds throughout to a powerful ending with an added choir.  “Your Kingdom Reigns” is an encouraging song of the confidence we have in Christ, with “You will not be shaken/God of our salvation/You are the Rock we stand on”.

The title song, “Worth It All”, penned by Ben Cantelon, Benji Cowart, Jonathan Smith, and Jason Ingram, is both a powerful song of surrender (“I let go of all I have just to have all of You”) and a beautiful picture of our reward of being with Him in heaven. The theme of this song highlights the tone of the whole album – ascribing our worth to the right object.  Meredith says, “We misplace our worth. Instead of spending ourselves in search of His glory, we settle for the worthless glitter of our own happiness.”

Other songs on this album like “Start With Me”, “All I Ask” and “Burn Away” all reinforce this theme of surrendering every area of life to Him, and seeking His glory and fame above all else.  She says in “Start With Me” to “break what needs breaking ‘till You’re all we see. Start with me.” and the perfectly crafted and memorable melody on the chorus of “All I Ask” declares “All I ask, all I want is You”.

Meredith’s superior vocals, challenging lyrics and easy to sing-along music makes Worth It All easily one of the best, well-rounded projects to come our way in a long time.  From the upbeat, catchy lyrics and rhythms in “Start With Me”, to the soul-stirring chorus of “Strong God”, to the intimate declaration of the power of the gospel in “The Gospel Changes Everything”, every song on this album works. Her heart, passion, skill and love for the Lord come shining through in this Spirit-led project filled with songs that fuel the church in the worship of our God.
