Overtake Me (Devotion)

Overtake Me (Devotion)

By Wayne Wrzesinski on December 30, 2012

There are times when life is just hard. Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes doing what God has called us to can seem very overwhelming.

I think that Moses felt that when he met God at the burning bush. Moses answered God’s call to him with “here I am” and God laid on him a seemingly impossible task, to deliver the children of Israel from the mighty hand of Egypt. Exodus 3 tells us: “But Moses said to God, 'Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?' He said, 'But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.'"

Moses didn’t feel like he was the guy to go up to Pharaoh and demand that he free Israel, but God said “I will be with you”. That’s enough. We need the power and Spirit of God to overtake us and give us power to do what He has called us to. When we are focused on who has called us and not the seemingly impossible situation, it becomes clear that God will accomplish what He has called us to.

If you are facing something that is overwhelming I would just encourage you to take some time and let the presence of God overtake you and rely on His strength. I’ll close with a few lines from a song I recently wrote with this title:

Overtake me, captivate me
Let me feel You near
You alone my heart will worship
You are welcome here
