Stay in Hot Pursuit [#Devotion]

Stay in Hot Pursuit [#Devotion]

The life of Elisha is a great example and lesson for all God-worshipers.

In 2 Kings 2, Elisha is accompanying his mentor and Israel’s well-known prophet, Elijah, on their daily business.  Elisha knows that Elijah will soon be taken to heaven by God, but neither he, Elijah or the guild of prophets in nearby cities knew the exact time or location of when this would happen.

It’s interesting that Elijah tests his protégé a couple of times by asking Elisha to wait in one place while he visits a nearby city.  But Elisha’s response shows just how committed, faithful and hungry he was to not miss one moment of seeing God’s work take place:

“Not on your life! I’m not letting you out of my sight!” (2 Kings 2:2)

This happened three times.  And each time, Elisha was adamant – insistent even! – not to leave Elijah’s side.

Ultimately, it paid off.

Elisha requested a double-portion of Elijah’s spirit and then witnessed an amazing sight of a fiery chariot and horses from heaven suddenly appear between them, right before seeing his mentor being taken up to heaven in a whirlwind.

Like Elisha, when we continually stay in hot pursuit of God’s Presence and zealously chase after His Word and His glory, we will witness incredible sights, miracles and events take place in and through our lives.

Elisha never left Elijah’s side on that incredible day, and it’s the same for us worshipers. We need to remain in God’s Presence to see His Power at work and be passionately and completely hungry for Him – not just when we are on a platform with an instrument in hand, but in the daily business of life, too.

And when we stay in hot pursuit of God, we will not be disappointed.
